Maki Fine Arts is pleased to present "Light & Blindness," our inaugural show from our new exhibition space inside the 3331 Arts Chiyoda building (suite 205). The "Light & Blindness" group show will open Saturday, June 22, 2013 and will showcase new and relevant works from seven artists.

As the most sought-after painter of today, Youhei Sugita (born 1983) has received high acclaim for his paintings drawn with tender colors reminiscent of impressionist art and by capturing moments of fantastic scenes that seem to present modernity and nostalgia simultaneously. With a history of selling 99.9% of his exhibited works during past solo shows, the much-awaited artwork from this artist backed by overwhelming support should not be missed.

Sayaka Suzuki (born 1988) is the recipient of the top VOCA award for the 2013 Vision of Contemporary Art competition. In her first exhibit with Maki Fine Arts, Suzuki will showcase brand new paintings that have emerged from the idea of paradox, showing several varying spaces constructed on the surface.Shu Ikeda, known for his photo cut-outs, has selected new works with even more precision, and Shunsuke Kano will also showcase new works from his "layer of my labor" series, mixing photography and three-dimensional objects. Michiko Nakatani, based in Germany, will present new drawings along with her other significant works, and Kazuhito Tanaka will present works from the original "GOLD SEES BLUE" series, photographs taken with transmitted light using gold leaf. And finally, Teruya Yuken will present works made from pizza boxes with cut-out letters as well as works from his most recent "Minding My Own Business" series, showing sprouts germinating from a New York Times article on the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011.
