19 January - 09 February 2013
Maki Fine Arts is pleased to present Shunsuke Kano's solo show "Baumkuchen and Flat Surfaces" starting Saturday, January 19, through Saturday, February 9, 2013. An up-and-coming artist based in Kyoto, Japan, Kano often creates his works by using photos that capture familiar scenes around him and then integrating the photos into various images and dimensional objects. His first solo exhibition in Tokyo "Baumkuchen and Flat Surfaces" will showcase his new dimensional artwork.
Despite clearly projecting our voice (sound) to utter the language we normally use, and even though we properly hear what the other has uttered, somehow, no communication is established. And although we should easily understand what something is, since the silhouette of the object is crystal clear, for some reason, we are unable understand anything. This ultra-unstable state allows possibilities of completely different interpretations. Instead of a simple disorder, I strive to create an extremely clear yet complex situation.
